Vision
The vision of the Perach Zahav Bnei Bayit program is to create meaningful connections between yeshiva students and elderly individuals in South Tel Aviv. It aims to provide social and emotional support to lonely or housebound seniors, offer practical and technological assistance to improve their daily lives, and simultaneously foster the personal growth and character development of the participating students.
Activity
Perach Zahav engages yeshiva students in a year-long program to support elderly residents of South Tel Aviv, combining social, practical, and educational activities. Students conduct weekly home visits, spending time with their senior “partners” through conversation, study, games, or simply being present. They also provide practical assistance, such as light cleaning, unclogging drains, or rearranging furniture. These visits create meaningful relationships, offering lonely or isolated seniors a reliable source of companionship while fostering empathy, responsibility, and personal growth in the students.
In addition to home visits, the program organizes roughly 30 group activities at the local Senior Activity Center. Students help seniors prepare for Shabbat and holidays through singing, dancing, and storytelling, creating a festive, intergenerational atmosphere that strengthens community bonds.
To ensure high-quality engagement, Perach Zahav provides professional guidance through an experienced social worker, who trains the students in elder care, helps them navigate challenges, identifies seniors in need, and provides professional intervention when necessary. Through these coordinated efforts, the program nurtures meaningful connections, enhances the well-being of elderly participants, and develops the character and social responsibility of the students.
