Vision
To empower the elderly while enabling a stage for his/her visual and inner world and presenting them to society as “social heroes” while also commemorating them via the tool of photography.
Activity
Musrara School will initiate a documentary empowerment project for elderly citizens at their golden age, which will span over three years, combining photography, sound and video recordings. After three years, the results will be presented in a group exhibition with aspirations to also create an album book of the project.
Each year the school will select 10 students from advanced years in their studies and new graduates of the school who will locate 10 elderly people/couples, from the age of 70 and up, while emphasizing the ethnic and demographic diversity that exists in the Israeli society.
The photographers will accompany the seniors for an entire year while actively photographing, collecting autobiographical personal stories and documenting unique talents through audio and video recordings, while emphasis will be put on the element of time evident in the photographs.
At the end of the third year of the project, the materials will be collected and curated by an art curator into a group exhibition. In the exhibition, we will combine photographs with accompanying texts that will result from the transcription of the recordings and literary editing of materials recorded over the years’ with hope that the contents will come together into a hard cover album book and will be integrated into Musrara School’s “Musrara Collection” website.
