Professional employment for high school graduates with disabilities

Vision

SHEKEL envisions a society in which full inclusion exists for people with physical, intellectual, and emotional disabilities in every facet of life.

Activity

SHEKEL is Israel’s largest non-profit organization enabling comprehensive inclusion for all people with special needs in the general community, irrespective of race, religion, national or ethnic origin. SHEKEL provides independent community housing, vocational rehabilitation and specialized professional training, cultural and leisure activities, accessibility solutions, an extended school day program in special education kindergartens and schools, and therapeutic treatment for special-needs victims of sexual violence. SHEKEL annually cares for over 8,000 children and adults with physical, emotional and intellectual disabilities from all sectors of Israeli society.

Matanel is currently working with SHEKEL to implement employment for high school graduates with special needs. The program will help them gain basic and complex employment skills, enabling them a much higher quality of life as equals in Israel’s workforce and allowing them to reach their highest potential.

Ayelet Fishbain

Ayelet Fishbain Vice Executive Director at SHEKEL. Ayelet oversees SHEKEL activities and provides professional instruction for SHEKEL’s programs across Israel. She received her B.A. in special education and Israeli literature and Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Bar Ilan University. Ayelet also completed a two-year course in group leadership training at Bar Ilan, as well as a course in psychiatry for people with special needs at Beit Issie Shapiro’s Trump Institute. Ayelet became Vice Executive Director after serving as Director of SHEKEL’s Vocational Rehabilitation Program. She began working at SHEKEL in 2002.
