Vision

The vision of “Ofakim for Israel named after Matanel Foundation” project is to translate traditional intuitions into a socio-political daily routine. To contemplate the broad challenges of Israeli society through traditional lenses.

In order to make this happen, we intend to build a team of ten participants who will undergo a joint intellectual journey. During which they will write a personal essay addressing the profound questions regarding Israeli space.

Activity

The group will meet several times throughout the year at the Beit Midrash in Yeruham and in varied locations across the country. As part of the process, the group will engage with various lecturers and experts addressing deep societal issues in Israeli society: religion and state, national security, governmental structures and dynamics, center and periphery, and notably, the role of Jewish tradition and its diverse implications in the Israeli context. Additionally, significant time will be allocated for personal writing and dialogue within small groups.

Leading up to the final meetings, substantial time will be devoted for each participant to present their central idea to the group. Fellow group members will respond and collaborate to refine their respective arguments.

The annual program will culminate in a conference where participants will present their written works to a wider audience. In this sense, our project aims twofold: to generate discourse and to spread it with broader audiences.
