Vision
The Theo-tron, a Jerusalem-based ensemble of religious and secular theater artists, bridges divides in Israeli society by fostering pluralistic dialogue and exposing audiences to Jewish spiritual heritage. Through innovative performances, we aim to create a new Jewish language that resonates with the current generation, promoting understanding and unity across diverse cultural and religious communities.
Activity
“The Incident” is a compelling and thought-provoking theatrical production that confronts the challenging subject of sexual assault by figures of authority within communities. Developed through an extensive collaborative study process, our team explored intricate themes such as shame, justice, forgiveness, guilt, and responsibility. The play scrutinizes the profound personal, social, and spiritual impacts of such harm, examining its repercussions not only on direct victims but also on broader community dynamics.
Central to this project is our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment, uniting creators with varying worldviews. Drawing inspiration from Jewish sources like the Midrash, Mishnah, and Gemara, alongside biblical narratives such as Judah and Tamar, David and Bathsheba, and stories from Rabbi Nachman of Breslav, “The Incident” aims to spark meaningful dialogue and cultural introspection.
Rooted in ancient Jewish cultural perspectives, the production respects traditional audiences while maintaining artistic integrity. It serves as a platform to raise awareness and facilitate constructive discourse on pressing social issues. As Israeli society navigates complex challenges, we believe in the transformative power of artistic expression to foster healing and provoke societal change.
