Vision
For the 30th edition of the Rabat International Book Fair, Mimouna Association’s vision is to reconnect Moroccan youth with their Jewish heritage by recreating a synagogue space at the heart of the event. Since most young Moroccans have never visited a synagogue, we brought one to them—along with Judaica and books—to inspire discovery, dialogue, and pride in Morocco’s diverse cultural identity.
Activity
Mimouna Association is a Moroccan NGO founded in 2007 by Muslim students who were inspired by the historical coexistence between Jews and Muslims in Morocco. The association’s main mission is to preserve, promote, and transmit Moroccan Jewish heritage through educational, cultural, and interfaith initiatives. Over the past decade, Mimouna has organized hundreds of conferences, exhibitions, workshops, school programs, and international partnerships aimed at raising awareness about Jewish history in Morocco and encouraging mutual respect and dialogue among communities.
One of Mimouna’s central focuses is youth education. The association regularly engages with Moroccan students and educators to integrate the story of Moroccan Jews into the national narrative, promote Holocaust education, and make Jewish heritage more visible and accessible to the wider public.
As part of this mission, Mimouna is participating in the 30th edition of the Rabat International Book Fair by recreating a synagogue space within the fair. This innovative initiative aims to introduce Moroccan youth, many of whom have never been inside a synagogue, to the symbols, objects, and cultural richness of Moroccan Judaism. The exhibit also includes Judaica items and a curated library, fostering curiosity, dialogue, and pride in Morocco’s pluralistic identity.
