Vision

In the project “Alma Beit Midrash – Matanel: Vision and Utopias,” we aim to create a serious group of about 25 young leaders (aged 20-40) from various fields who find the place and society in which they live meaningful. The group will meet at Alma for a monthly three-and-a-half-hour study session. Each session will be divided into two parts: a learning segment, focused on a canonical text, and a writing segment, where participants will experiment with writing in different genres as a processing exercise and continuation of the learning from the first part. At the end of the series of sessions, which will take place during the 2025-2026 academic year, we will hold three intensive days of writing and guidance. At the end of these days, the group members will create a collection of short essays describing how they would like to see Israel and Israeli society in 20 years time. This collection will be edited into a booklet with the help of the Matanel Foundation and published.

Activity

The various programs at Alma offer an opportunity for in-depth study of the treasures of Hebrew culture. Those enrolled in Alma’s different study programs are granted a window into treasures and sources of inspiration from Judaism and Hebrew culture. Participants are invited to engage in dialogue with these sources, examine their values, and turn them into a spring of inspiration for artistic creation. The aim of our study program is to develop the infrastructure for new Hebrew thought and creation through the connection between the unique approach to the study of Hebrew culture that is Alma, and the language of study of the traditional Beit Midrash, academia and the artist’s workshop, guided by the fundamental conviction that Hebrew culture is a dynamic work open to interpretation and change, and that creators and thinkers living and working in Israel are significant partners in the culture’s ever-evolving design.
