Vision
To preserve, revitalize, and transmit the unique liturgical and musical heritage of Ethiopian Jewry, ensuring it remains a living and accessible tradition for future generations. Through professional documentation, education, and community leadership, the project seeks to strengthen cultural identity, pride, and continuity within the Ethiopian Israeli community and the Jewish people worldwide.
Activity
The project focuses on completing and expanding the Ta’amei Ethiopia initiative, dedicated to the preservation and production of traditional melodies in the liturgical tradition of Ethiopian Jewish prayer.
The activity includes professional recording and production of twelve high quality video assets, consisting of eleven lyric based prayer videos and one live ensemble performance, documenting authentic melodies in their original musical form. Alongside production, the project will conduct a national workshop bringing together fifty Ethiopian Israeli cantors, synagogue leaders, and cultural bearers for in depth learning, practice, and transmission of the tradition.
Educational materials, both printed and digital, will be developed to explain the historical, musical, and spiritual context of the prayers, enabling their use in schools, synagogues, and community frameworks. A national launch event will present the completed materials to the public, community leaders, educators, and partners, serving as a platform for celebration and dissemination. The recordings and materials will be made broadly accessible through digital platforms to ensure long term reach and impact in Israel and abroad.
All activities are coordinated and managed by NACOEJ Israel, drawing on its longstanding experience, professional networks, and deep trust within the Ethiopian Israeli community.
