Vision
By 2048, Israel’s centennial, Mitzpe Ramon will be an international center of musical excellence and creative thinking in the heart of the Negev. The Think Tank brings together artists, thinkers and cultural entrepreneurs to imagine that future and turn it into concrete plans, so that young artists can build their lives and careers in Israel’s south.
Activity
Meev’er – Center for Arts and Creativity is a non-profit organization in Mitzpe Ramon, in Israel’s Negev desert. It runs the Internal Compass Music School, a three-year professional program in jazz and creative music, recognized and supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture, with over 40 students each year. It also runs the Mitzpe Ramon Jazz Club, the Rechem venue and the Jazz on the Edge festival. Dozens of graduates have completed their studies since 2020, and many wish to stay in Mitzpe Ramon; Meev’er is building the frameworks that make this possible, including professional ensembles, a community conservatory and a choir.
Matanel Fellows 2048 – Internal Compass Think Tank is the organization’s newest initiative. In the 2026/27 academic year, at least fifteen fellows – musicians, artists, cultural entrepreneurs and thinkers from Mitzpe Ramon and beyond – meet for ten sessions at the school, the jazz club and the Rechem venue. Together they develop ideas and practical plans for the cultural future of Mitzpe Ramon and the Negev toward 2048. The year concludes with a closing seminar and the publication of a book of articles written by the participants.
