”Ofek Rahav”: Cultural Enrichment Project for Kedma High School Students

Israel

    Surfing Activity

Vision

Kedma envisions a just society where all young people, regardless of background, access meaningful education that reflects their identity, nurtures critical thinking, and inspires civic engagement. By centering marginalized voices and fostering cultural pride, Kedma cultivates confident, socially conscious graduates equipped to shape a more inclusive and equitable Israeli future.

Activity

Kedma High School, in Jerusalem’s Katamonim neighborhood, serves 150 students from under-resourced Mizrahi families. Many face long-term social and economic hardship, with limited exposure to cultural life and few opportunities beyond their immediate surroundings.

Ofek Rahav offers students consistent access to cultural enrichment through monthly activities such as museum visits, theater performances, lectures, and educational trips.

The project helps students gain cultural literacy, broaden their worldview, and build confidence. It also introduces them to their own Mizrahi heritage, which is often overlooked in mainstream education. This fosters pride, belonging, and a deeper connection to their personal and collective identity.

Ofek Rahav is part of Kedma’s broader mission to provide high-quality, socially aware education. The school combines academic achievement with civic engagement and personal development. Its students consistently exceed national matriculation rates in similar socio-economic settings, and many graduates pursue higher education.

Led by the school’s principal and supported by the school’s staff, the program is fully integrated into the school year.

Ofek Rahav helps students overcome structural barriers, strengthen their sense of self, and become active and informed members of Israeli society. It is a meaningful investment in equity, culture, and future leadership.
