Vision
The goal for this project is to improve the quality of science education at Boyar by converting the existing Chemistry lab and prep room into a fully equipped and technologically advanced science center.
Activity
The existing facilities at Boyar, which consist of three laboratories and a prep area (for Biology, Physics and Chemistry), and covering a total area of approximately 6,000 square feet, were renovated over 20 years ago. They no longer meet acceptable safety or education standards and the Ministry of Education allocations do not cover the costs of the upgrade. With inadequate space and facilities, Boyar high school struggles to prepare students for matriculation exams.
Objectives:
- To improve the quality of science education at Boyar by converting the existing lab complex into a fully equipped and technologically advanced science center.
- To renovate the chemistry lab and prep room and upgrade their equipment during the 2017-18 school year.
Main guidelines in the running of the program:
Prior to renovations, the existing infrastructure will be surveyed in order to determine what is required for each lab, in accordance with its respective needs. For example, the Physics lab will require additional electricity sockets, sinks for the Biology lab, etc.
The renovations will include flooring, lighting, the water and electrical infrastructure, as well as renewal and upgrade of existing chemical and biotechnological equipment, such as pressure and temperature sensors, spectrophotometer, five computers and a printer for reporting on scientific experiments, digital weighing scales and pH measuring kits.
