Vision
6 young adult communities, operating in Jerusalem’s Kiryat Yovel neighborhood for the past 8 years, vision this area of Jerusalem as a model area for attracting young-adults to live in Jerusalem in the long term while creating coexistence amongst the diverse population of Jerusalem. Ultimately, the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood is a microcosm of Jerusalem and the challenges facing the entire Israeli society.
Activity
The Jerusalem Pre-Military Leadership Program is based in the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood, and has 26 participants with leadership potential from all over Israel. The program is designed to promote a humanistic, democratic and equal society in Israel through education and civic participation. The program aspires to develop individual, Israeli and Jewish identity of its members and a civic-activist generation deriving from the values of Jewish life, community, mutual responsibility and social responsibility. Each class consists of various sectors of the Israeli society from diverse socio-economic levels, peripheral and central urban environments and a spectrum of traditional-secular Jewish backgrounds reflecting the diverse demographics of the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood. The unique aspect of our program is that we target population that would usually never enroll in a volunteer gap year. Our low tuition program attracts a crucial need in a wide spectrum of society. Neighborhood residents, institutions, the municipality and Jerusalem residents have an active role. The project impacts the 25,000 neighborhood residents due its location and the routine volunteer work. The program is situated in the heart of the neighborhood, in a very poor area. The participants interact daily with the residents, and celebrate together Jewish holidays and festivities.
