Vision
Raise Your Spirits Theatre’s current production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, promotes faith, courage, and unity among the Jewish people. It emphasizes the vision that individuals bring to the nation, exemplified by Joseph, one of Jacob’s sons from whom two tribes emerged. He has belief in God in the face of adversity, and a struggle with his brothers that culminates in forgiveness and reconciliation.
Activity
Raise Your Spirits Theatre performs to raise the spirits of the people of Israel during turbulent times. We perform in memory of victims of terror and Israeli soldiers who fell in the line of duty, and in honor of their families, many of whom we host as our guests at our performances. We also host women from shelters, and women in difficult financial straits.
We help women and girls find fulfillment for their performing talents in an atmosphere in which they will feel comfortable. We include girls and women who are experiencing or who have experienced difficult life challenges, and our cast and crew are from across the religious gamut.
We bring high quality musical theater to the public stage, in the spirit of “From Zion shall go forth the Torah” — shows that bring Biblical figures to life as inspirational role models.
The first show we performed, in 2001, “Joseph,” by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, was during a bloody intifada and it brought hope and consolation to our cast and the audience. We reprise it now in our 21st year and the way our cast performs the show promotes the importance of faith, courage, leadership and strength.
