Vision

The Matanel Award is awarded to an individual whose involvement exceeds their professional or artistic work, contributing to others around them without asking for anything in return. Matanel Award is for an artist whose present work is based on cultural canonical sources from all religions.

Activity

The award of $25,000, courtesy of the Matanel Foundation, will be awarded by Alma – Home for Hebrew Culture in association with Shabbat magazine of Makor Rishon. The award’s goal is to encourage the work of an artist with the potential to significantly influence a range of fields within Israeli culture.

We invite visual artists whose continuous work is connected to Israeli life and are influenced by Jewish, Muslim or Christian sources to apply for the award. Priority will be given to artists whose professional careers are at their developing stages and who are not yet recognized or established in the art world.

For further details please see Alma’s and Makor Rishon’s websites.

The award committee is chaired by Alma’s founder Dr. Ruth Calderon and chief editor of Shabat magazine, Rabi Elchanan Nir. The full panel of judges will stay confidential until the announcement of the winners.

The Matanel Award will be presented at a formal event in Hanukah, December 2012.
