Vision
The Project aims to enrich the canon of songs that are taught and sung in Kindergartens in Israel.
We believe that Piyutim –Hebrew sacred songs, create unmediated connection to Jewish tradition, identity and community, reflecting the great wealth and variety of Jewish culture.
The melodies & lyrics learned from childhood accompany our children throughout life and have an important role in the creation of identity.
Activity
“Come to my Garden” is a special program, that exposes kindergarten teachers, children and parents to the rich, multi-Cultural heritage of singing piyutim from the various Jewish traditions, with the intention of integrating them into the kindergartens’ routine.
The Program is a collaboration of “Invitation to Piyut”, with the support of the Matanel Foundation, ” together with the Ministry of Education and Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi.
Iinitiated during the 2015-2016 school year, it is part of a broader perspective that seeks to enrich the Israeli cultural sound track, and the educational system in particular.
In 2017-18 the program is all ready running in 500 Kindergartens in Israel – Religious and Secular, and in planned to expand.
We strongly believe that the program could have a meaningful contribution to the Education systems in various Jewish communities outside Israel. The Songs and the Music can have a major role in connecting Jewish Educators, children and families to Jewish roots, language, culture, experience and identity.
In order to make the Materials of the program widely accessible we are developing a Hebrew-English web site that will be offered together with a training program to major educational organizations in the USA, Europe and Australia.
