Established in Luxembourg since 1932 as a « Social Welfare Organization », Caritas Luxembourg acts towards social inclusion in Luxembourg and around the world. Support to vulnerable populations is a primary concern: single parent families, children and youths, migrants and refugees, disadvantaged persons, homeless or with precarious housing situations or income, persons temporarily unable to manage their lives.
Caritas has for years been engaged in working with the most vulnerable people in Luxembourg. A disturbing phenomenon is the growing rate of unemployment among youth who risk exclusion, particularly if they are without any support from their family. The numbers are especially high among young people with a migration background. (Young migrants not speaking any of the official languages of Luxembourg, or asylum seekers).Their life is on the street; they feel purposeless and risk falling down into drug addiction or criminality.
The project is foreseen to offer occupations to about 40 young people over the space of one year. In their employment they will be supervised by a professional, who will provide guidance in the different tasks. The fields of occupation will be mainly gardening, maintenance of greens areas and building maintenance (painting, plumbing…). At the end of this practical year the goal will be to bring them back into regular school or to get them into a job in about six months later.
